It’s not everyday you get to see the DBL Sharks Sheffield beat Cheshire Phoenix by 18 points. It was also an extra special basketball game on Friday, as The Mintridge Foundation had the pleasure of attending the fixture with our Gold Mintridge Mentoring Programme Mentee from Ingham Primary School, as a celebration of their mentoring programme with Marko Backovic.
Our evening began before the game when Marko kindly presented his mentee with some Sheffield Sharks basketball gifts, including a signed ball, a signed foam finger and a shirt to wear throughout his night of cheering for Marko.
It was an enthralling game of basketball which the Sharks dominated all the way through. Marko’s mentee got to see Marko in action including a fantastic 3 pointer to add to the Sharks tally.
The evening was a fantastic opportunity for Marko’s mentee to meet him once again and see what it’s like on competition day for an athlete. It was amazing to see the impact the mentoring had clearly had on everyone involved. Marko and his team welcomed his mentee for a team photo and signed the match programme for him to take away. The mentee had the chance to chat to Marko about the game and get some last-minute words of advice to prepare for his football match on Sunday.
Well done to the mentee, his parents and Marko for completing an incredibly successful 6 months of mentoring.
Thank you again to Ingham Primary School and all the team at DBL Sharks Sheffield for inviting The Mintridge Foundation to deliver the Gold Mentoring Programme, and for enabling Marko to deliver a very inspirational six months of mentoring.
We can’t wait to hear more about how Marko’s mentee gets on in the next few years.
