Manor School & Sports College – KS4 & KS5 Achievements Evening

Mintridge enjoyed another wonderful evening at Manor, this time it was to celebrate the achievements of the KS4 & KS5 students with the students and parents before many head off to university in a few short weeks.

Mrs Brooks welcomed the students and guests before handing over to their Guest Speaker and Mintridge Ambassador, Mal Loye.

Mal inspired his audience by explaining where his journey into professional cricket began, just a few miles away from Manor at Cogenhoe Cricket Club which led him onto his pathway of success through Northamptonshire and into the England Side. Mal had two key messages in his key note speech for the students to take away with them:

Mal admitted to the students that he focussed largely on his cricket throughout school and at the start of his professional journey which made his situation much harder when his playing career was drawing to a close. Mal urged the students to maintain a positive balance between school life and other commitments, drawing from his own experiences.

“Taking yourself out of your comfort zone”

Last summer, Mal travelled to Bangladesh to take up a role as the High Performance Coach of the International side. This was a fantastic opportunity but it came with challenges such as leaving his young family in the UK, living in a bustling city where very little English was spoken and acclimatising to a new culture and environment. Mal had to step outside of his comfort zone, but by doing this, he found new qualities and strengths within himself. Again, something that he urged the students to draw from.

Following Mal’s insightful words, it was time to turn to the awards:

  • English / Media & Maths Awards
  • Science Awards
  • Health and Social Care / Psychology Awards
  • Food Technology / Graphics / Resistant Materials Awards
  • Inclusion Awards
  • Global Studies Awards
  • Art / Drama/ Dance / Music Awards
  • House Trophies
  • Students of the Year
  • Joe Arnold Cup
  • Achievement Cup
  • Outstanding Contribution to Sixth Form

It was an outstanding array of talent under one roof largely recognised in the GSCE and A Level results that were read out as well. Thank you to the Head Boy and Head Girl for your closing words. Mintridge felt privileged to be part of such a fantastic evening and thank you for having us again!
