On Friday 21st June 2019, Team Mintridge had the pleasure of returning to Thrapston Primary School for a day of cricket and swimming.
The morning began with a presentation by Ben Smith about his cricketing career and where it has taken him, and the sacrifices that he has made to follow his dream including missing out on birthdays and Christmases at home.
The Q&A provided some very good questions:
“Who was your inspiration for Cricket?”
“What advice would you give someone starting hard ball cricket?”
“Did you ever believe you’d become a famous cricketer?”
It was then outside for the elite Girls cricket team to have a coaching session where Ben covered fielding, bowling and batting. As the sun continued to shine, Ben led three further sessions to the Year 4 children who were all very eager to learn. Each session ending with photos and autograph cards.
As Ben departed the School, it was time for our Olympic Swimmer to return to Thrapston and provide a coaching session to the swimming team as they prepared for the County Championships the following week. The squad then provided valuable coaching assistance to Lizzie as she encouraged the Year 3 pupils in the pool. Again, each session ended with group photos where Lizzie had everyone jumping out of the water on the count of 3!
Thank you very much to everyone at Thrapston Primary School for making us feel very welcome and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Since leaving the school, we are delighted to hear that the Thrapston students have been crowned County Champions, and it is brilliant that Lizzie was able to support them in that journey!
