We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of a half term for the pupils at Scampton C of E Primary School last Friday, as Team Mintridge visited their school for their prestigious Sports Day event, with our amazing gymnastics Ambassador, Grace Harrison.
With all the children raring to go, for what would be an exciting day, dressed in their team colours, Grace introduced the morning with a presentation, all about her sporting journey and the highs and lows of her Gymnastics career. It was an extremely relevant presentation as Grace talked about the importance of believing in yourself and never giving up, even when things may seem difficult.
After the presentation the pupils all had the chance to ask questions. Some of the best questions were;
What are the hardest gymnastics moves you’ve ever done?
What is your favourite discipline?
Was it scary on the bars?
How many medals do you have?
Did you feel confident when you were young, competing in international competitions?
Who is your inspiration?
With the sun shining and the field all ready and set up for what was going to be an exciting day of activities, the school headed out on to the field. All of the pupils took part in a range of activities throughout the morning. Grace delivered a short gymnastics taster session, with each group, where they got to practice their jumps, rolls, handstands and turns. Some of the gymnasts in the group got to show off their flicks and bridges too.
Before the quick changeover to the next activity, each group got to take their photo with Grace and have fun with the Mintridge Twitter props. We are so glad that they all had a chance to meet Grace and try out a few new moves in their teams. It was so great to see such an exciting event being held for every child to take part in. There were lots of smiles and giggles throughout the morning as each team celebrated small victories in each of their events.
The eagerly anticipated water race was the perfect way to conclude the morning. With the rules firmly in place, each team had to try to move as much water as possible from one end of the running track to the other and aim to fill their team tubs up in the allotted time. As Grace started the race, the sense of competition quickly filled the air, as the teams progressed on and worked together, it was a lovely sight to see the older students lending a helping hand to the younger members of their team.
At the end of the morning as the water race winners were announced, we had time for Grace to award some prizes to those students that had displayed skill, effort, great attitude or helped others within each of the gymnastics sessions in the morning. As we celebrated the end of a fantastic morning, Grace posed for a group photograph with the whole school and gave her thanks to the teachers and students for a fantastic morning.
We loved every minute of our morning at Scampton C of E Primary School. Thank you to the staff and students for inviting Grace and Team Mintridge to be a part of your day!
