Mintridge Bronze Judo Programme with Nekoda Davis, Alderbrook Primary School, June 2019

“If sport can change my life, it can change yours too!”

Nekoda Davis shared lots of inspirational messages with the staff and students at Alderbrook Primary School, when we paid them a visit earlier on this month. Throughout the day, the students would get the chance to meet Nekoda and learn some top tips from her judo coaching sessions.

Our day was full of fun, falls, throws and learning new things, as Nekoda progressively showed the students at Alderbrook Primary School some of her world class judo moves, that helped her to become a world and Commonwealth champion.

As the students grew in confidence, each group practised their judo throws with the partner they were working with and the groups each had the opportunity to demonstrate the best throws to Nekoda. Some of the lucky students from each group also had the chance to ‘throw’ Nekoda. Wow! What an amazing addition to a fun session of coaching.

As part of our day, Nekoda also delivered an inspirational presentation and Q&A session with the KS1 students, who attentively listened to Nekoda’s sporting journey and the challenges she has had to overcome along the way. We had some great questions from the KS1 students, including:

Why did you start taking part in judo?

Who did you throw first?

How many medals have you won?

It was a great opportunity for the students to also see Nekoda’s medals and watch a short clip of Nekoda competing at the highest level.

Just like all our Mintridge Programmes, at the end of each of our sessions, the students had their photograph taken with Nekoda and had some fun posing with the Mintridge Twitter frame and photo props! Every student walked away from the sessions with a signed autograph card to remember their day with Nekoda.

We are very grateful to Alderbrook Primary School for inviting us to be a part of their day and welcoming Nekoda to your school to lead a fun filled day of judo with you. It was so great to see all the students trying a new sport and enjoying every moment of learning some world class judo throws.

If you would like to see the photos and video from our day. Please contact the staff at Alderbrook Primary School.

We look forward to working with you again soon.

Thanks

Team Mintridge
