Mintridge Bronze Presentation Programme with Iona Lake at St. Nicholas C of E Primary School – A Burghley Family Trust Programme, November 2019

We had a great afternoon lined up for St Nicholas C of E Primary School as we joined them on Friday for our Bronze Presentation Programme, with Iona Lake, as part of the support we received from The Burghley family Trust. We were delighted that St. Nicholas C of E Primary School was the second school in the Rutland Learning Trust to receive a Programme from Mintridge with this support.

We arrived at St Nicholas C of E Primary School, just in time to be welcomed by some of the students practicing their assembly sing along tune. This put Team Mintridge in good spirits and prepared Iona for the inspirational presentation she was due to deliver. The students paid close attention to Iona’s sporting story and got to hear all about the highs and lows of being an elite athlete and her top tips for doing well in sport and physical activity throughout your life. It was great for the students to hear how an active and healthy lifestyle can really benefit you physical, mentally and socially.

The children also got to hear about the setbacks that Iona has had to overcome on her journey to success, and what it takes to deal with the pressure that comes with performing at the top level. We hope that the children can apply these messages to their school and daily lives as they progress through their own journeys.

Towards the end of the presentation, the students asked some excellent questions to Iona. Some of the best ones included:

What has been your favourite competition to compete in?

Were your family athletes?

How did you get into running?

When was your first race?

Do your parents come and watch you compete?

What is your favourite sport?

How old were you when you got your first win?

Who was your role model growing up?

How many medals do you have?

What would your advice be to the young people in the room who want to take part in sport and physical activity?

We were so grateful to St. Nicholas C of E Primary School for allowing us to come and visit their school with Iona. The Burghley Family Trust kindly supported this Programme for this school in the Rutland Learning Trust and we are very grateful to them for their support.

We look forward to working with you again soon.

Thanks

Team Mintridge
