Mintridge Bronze Presentation Programme with Iona Lake, Ketton C of E Primary School – A Programme Supported by The Burghley Family Trust, November 2019

Our visit to Ketton C of E Primary School was an exciting day for the staff and students. Not only was it a day of Children in Need fun and games, but it they also had a very special visit from our athletics Ambassador, Iona Lake. We are very grateful to The Burghley Family Trust for supporting this Programme and enabling the first of our two schools we were visiting that day, in the Rutland Learning Trust, to benefit from this Programme.

We arrived at Ketton C of E Primary School just after lunch, to deliver an inspirational presentation, all about Iona’s sporting journey and the highs and lows she has experienced so far throughout her life as an elite athlete. This was a brilliant opportunity for the pupils to hear what it is like to compete at the elite level and the steps she has taken along her journey to success.

As the children listened attentively to Iona’s story, they got an insight into the need for resilience and perseverance throughout your life, whether that be in sport or in school. It was great for the pupils to hear how this would link to the challenges they might face in tests, competitions or in their daily lives at this point in their lives.

Towards the end of the presentation, the students asked some excellent questions to Iona. Some of the best ones included:

How many races have you won?

When did you first get into running?

How did you get into a club?

Are you nervous about trying for the Olympics?

How fast can you run?

How do you pick yourself up when you fail at something?

Do you get nervous at the start line of a race?

We were so grateful to Ketton C of E Primary for allowing us to come and visit their school with Iona. Thank you again to the Burghley Family Trust for supporting this programme, as it really does make a difference to the lives of the young people we have reached.

We look forward to working with you again soon.

Thanks

Team Mintridge
