It was an excellent start to our countdown to Christmas when we were invited to the SportsAid lunch in Cambridge with all the SportsAid sponsors. SportsAid had invited our GB football Ambassador Fil Kamps to speak about how he had been supported by numerous people throughout his sporting journey.
The room was full of Christmas cheer and high spirits, as we started the day with a Christmas lunch and the chance to speak to the generous sponsors on each of the tables.
After the final course, it was Fil’s turn to introduce himself and his story. The room were extremely attentive, as they listened to how Fil had overcome the challenges within his sport and bounced back from failure. It was so great to hear how the support that is given to young athletes, at the start of their sporting career, can really make a difference to the sporting journey some will take.
Towards the end of the presentation Fil welcomed questions from the floor. Some of the best questions were:
Do you think there is an easy transition into mainstream, premier league football for a hearing-impaired athlete?
If you were going to model yourself on any football manager who would it be?
Do you receive lots of support from the FA?
The end of the afternoon allowed the guests and sponsors the chance to ask Fil any more questions and take photos.
Thank you very much to SportsAid for inviting The Mintridge Foundation and Fil to be a part of your SportsAid lunch.
