It was an inspiring Tuesday for the staff and students at Campion School, Bugbrooke this week, when Team Mintridge and James Golding visited Years 7 and 8 to deliver a Silver Mentoring Programme. The whole programme was gifted to Campion School by Bowbridge Homes a housing developer who is working in the local area. We are so pleased that Campion School were chosen for this special day with James, and we are very grateful to Bowbridge Homes for enabling the Programme to go ahead.
James started the day as planned with the first of many inspirational presentations for the staff and students at Campion School. It was a presentation following James’ journey and story, which was full of examples of extreme resilience, and determination. It
was a great opportunity for the students to take away some key messages into their own daily lives, including how important it is to take ‘one step at a time’ and how they should all be ‘setting the bar high’.
James’ story had the students hooked as they realised how his journey related to their own journey through life at this moment in time. James emphasised to them all, that everything they had done up to this moment in time had all been learned throughout their years of growing up.
The Mintridge golden post box made another appearance at Campion School as we asked the students to post their ambitions, aspirations or key take aways from James’ presentation. It was also at this stage in each of the presentations that the students took part in a short Q&A with James. Some of the best questions were:
What is your goal after the Race Across America?
Have you ever thought about giving up?
What did you want to be when you were younger?
Who inspires you?
Do you get to sleep on the seven day world record ride?
What was your reaction when you heard the doctor had saved your life?
Can you do a wheelie?
It was all fun and smiles for the students at the end of the presentations, as they posed for group and individual photographs with James, using our personalised Twitter frame and photo props. It was so great to see the students approaching James to ask questions and ask him for advice.
The day wasn’t over yet as James and Team Mintridge eagerly anticipated the arrival of James’ two mentees, that he would be remote mentoring for the next 6 months. Campion School staff selected the two mentees to be given this fantastic opportunity, as they believed they would each individually benefit from being mentored by James for different reasons. Each mentee received a Mintridge mentoring pack and goody bag and spent the last hour of the day learning a bit more about James and discussed things they may have in common. We look forward to following their journey over the next 6 months.
We are incredibly grateful to Bowbridge Homes for supporting Campion School and gifting this Programme. Thank you to the staff and students at Campion School for welcoming Team Mintridge and James Golding and for helping to organise the day and mentoring preparation.
If you would like to see the photos and video from our day, please contact the staff at Campion School.
We look forward to working with you again soon.
