The Robert Elliott Trust Gold Programme Fixture with George Furbank and his Northampton International Academy Mentees, Northampton Saints vs Worcester Warriors, May 2019

It was a super Saturday for Team Mintridge and George Furbank’s two Northampton International Academy mentees this weekend, as we went to watch the Northampton Saints vs Worcester Warriors Rugby game at Franklin’s Gardens. We are so pleased that the two mentees were able to watch the fixture and meet their mentor George before and after the game.

Before the game began, George met with his two mentees, their teachers and family members, to give them a guided tour of the Northampton Saints changing rooms and the gym where they spend a lot of their time preparing for match day. It was great for the mentees to see the place that George spends a lot of his time and gain a greater understanding about what it takes to play at the top level and the amount of preparation needed. As we ended the tour, we took our seats in the jam-packed stadium ready to watch the Saints play the Warriors.

It was a great opportunity for the boys to have their photo taken with George and show him their Mintridge goody bag for our special day.

It was due to be an exciting game for the Saints as they played their last home game of the season. The game started off well for the Saints with a fantastic try by Luther Burrell to start what would end up being a game full of points for the Saints. It was a great atmosphere at Franklin’s Gardens and certainly a great game for the mentees to watch.

At the end of the game the mentees had the chance to catch up with George about the game, as the players did the final pitch walk of the season and applauded their fans for their support. As the players left the pitch ready for the presentations, the fans were invited onto the pitch. George’s mentees got the chance to walk onto the pitch and have their photograph taken under the rugby posts.

We are very grateful to The Robert Elliott Trust for donating this Gold Programme to Northampton International Academy and enabling George’s mentees to have this experience. Thank you to the teachers and families of the two mentees for their support and accompanying Team Mintridge and the two mentees to the game.

We look forward to seeing the progress of the two mentees over the coming months. We hope that the memories of this day will stay with them for a long time and inspire them to do great things.

If you would like to see any photos from the day you can contact the staff at Northampton International Academy.
