PHIL ROPER

HOCKEY

Phillip Roper is an international field hockey player for England and Great Britain with a career spanning over a decade at the top level of the sport.

Growing up in Chester, Phil tried a range of different sports, but following in the footsteps of his parents, hockey was the one he was most passionate about. He began his playing journey with Chester Hockey Club and has since gone on to represent leading teams across Europe, including Holcombe, Wimbledon, Oranje Rood in the Netherlands, and his current club, Old Georgians.

Phil has earned over 230 international caps and has served as captain of both the England and Great Britain teams. He has competed at two Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and has won multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Away from playing, Phil co-hosts the podcast "Let's Stick Together," which explores different aspects of hockey and high-performance sport. He is also a part-owner of the coffee company "The Social Bean" and a father of two, which gives him a strong appreciation for the importance of positive role models.

As a Mintridge Foundation ambassador, Phil is passionate about sharing his experiences in elite sport and encouraging young people to find enjoyment, confidence, and lifelong skills through physical activity.
