The Wilson Foundation support a presentation and live Q&A with Double Paralympic Gold medallist, Danielle Brown MBE, for the students at Red Kite Special Academy

What a fantastic Friday we had with the students at Red Kite Special Academy, as we joined them for an extra special live Q&A with the amazing Double Paralympic Gold medallist Archer, Danielle Brown MBE. We are incredibly grateful to the Wilson Foundation for supporting this programme, and we are delighted that their support enabled the students at Red Kite Special Academy to benefit from this amazing inspirational presentation and live Q&A with Danielle.

The students and staff at Red Kite Academy, listened and watched Danielle’s full presentation recently, as this was pre recorded for them to enjoy in their own time at school. During Danielle’s presentation, she covered a wide range of topics for the students about her sporting story, her life and accomplishments, in and out of the sporting world, and they were incredibly impactful for the students to be able to experience.

Danielle talked through her sporting journey to success, and explained to the children during her presentation about how her archery journey had started and what the road to success looked like for her. It was very important for the students to learn more about Danielle’s disability, which she has always seen as part of her life and something that has never stopped her getting involved in sport and physical activity, or pursuing a very successful career along side this journey.

From Danielle’s presentation, the students also got to learn a lot more about Danielle’s disability and how she has shown extreme resilience in the face of setbacks and challenges throughout her sporting journey. Danielle has an incredibly positive outlook on life and a very strong growth mindset, so the students got to listen to her motivating presentation and learn how she responds to a challenge, which she said in most cases is just about making sure you keep moving forwards!

Danielle also focussed on why it is important to be open minded and find ways to solve and rework problems and challenges, when you are faced with them in your future. It was a brilliant message for the students to hear all about how Danielle has used her experience in sport, and in her working life, to develop her own resilience and how the children can do this too in their lives.

After watching the pre recorded presentation, the students at Red Kite Special Academy, were excited to be able to join Danielle for a live Q&A, where they could ask her all of the questions they wanted to know about, in a virtual setting, directly to Danielle. It was an incredibly exciting time for the students, who felt privileged to be able to speak to a double Paralympic gold medallist.

Some of the best questions from the live Q&A were

Why did you choose archery?

What is the furthest arrow you have ever shot?

What did your friends say when you said you wanted to be a Paralympian?

How long do you practise for?

How many medals did you win in total? (Danielle got the students to count along at this point!)

Can you teach us archery?

Where have you been to win your medals?

Where did you win your medals?

How many times a week do you train?

Where do you get your arrows from?

Do your family take part in sport?

Have you ever met any famous people?

What do you do in your spare time?

Did anyone else in your family do archery?

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff and students at Red Kite Special Academy and we are so pleased that they could benefit from this Virtual Programme with Danielle Brown MBE.

The teachers at Red Kite Academy said that the programme was “good for my particular children to ask questions and listen, as they find this aspect of communication difficult.”

We are incredibly grateful to the Wilson Foundation for supporting this programme and enabling the students at Red Kite Special Academy to benefit from this amazing inspirational presentation and live Q&A with Danielle.
