Mintridge Foundation Ambassador shares her journey and teaches teamwork through netball skills
We enjoyed an incredible and inspiring day at Hayfield Cross Primary School with Eboni Usoro-Brown, former England netball star and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, in her role as a Mintridge Foundation Ambassador. Eboni visited the school to share her journey and speak about the importance of responsibility—leaving pupils motivated, excited, and eager to learn more.
A Motivational Start: Whole-School Assembly
The day began with a whole-school assembly, where Eboni spoke about her netball career, the challenges she’s faced, and why responsibility matters both in sport and everyday life.
Her story encouraged pupils to reflect on how they can take ownership of their actions, celebrate their strengths, and work towards their goals with confidence.
Year 5 & 6 Netball Skills Sessions
Following the assembly, Eboni led practical netball sessions for two Year 5 classes. The pupils took part in passing and catching drills designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, and resilience.
After lunch, she worked with two Year 6 classes, building on these essential skills and encouraging pupils to support one another throughout each activity. The enthusiasm and determination displayed by the children made each session a joy to watch.
Curious Minds: Q&A with Years 1 and 2
For the younger pupils in Years 1 and 2, Eboni hosted engaging classroom Q&A sessions. The children asked a lovely mix of thoughtful and light-hearted questions—ranging from her biggest sporting achievements to fun favourites like what is her favourite fruit and vegetables!
These conversations offered pupils a wonderful opportunity to connect with Eboni on a personal level.
“What colour dress do you wear?”
“How many gold medals have you won?”
“When did you start playing netball?”
A Fantastic Day of Learning and Inspiration
Throughout the entire day, the pupils were exceptionally well-behaved, enthusiastic, and fully engaged. Their positive attitudes played a huge role in making the visit such a memorable experience.
We are incredibly grateful to Hayfield Cross Primary School for welcoming us so warmly and helping make this day possible.
A huge thank you to all the staff and pupils for their energy, curiosity, and excitement—it truly was an unforgettable day!
