Inspiring Futures at Hazel Leys Academy: A Day with Olympian Leon Greenwood

On 22nd April 2026, Hazel Leys Academy buzzed with the kind of excitement that only an Olympian can spark. The Mintridge Foundation was proud to bring Leon Greenwood, Team GB bobsleigh athlete and Winter Olympian, to the school for a day of inspiration, challenge, and discovery.

From the moment Leon stepped into the assembly hall, the pupils were captivated. He shared his journey from a young boy with a passion for sport to representing Great Britain on the world stage.  At the age of 10, Leon set himself a goal to one day become an Olympian.

His message was clear:

VISUALISE IT

WORK FOR IT

MAKE IT HAPPEN

The day continued with practical sessions for all year groups where they learnt about speed and strength with all the pupils getting actively involved.

As the day came to a close, Leon left the pupils with a message they won’t soon forget:

Who decides your future - “I DO”

A Special Thanks

The Mintridge Foundation is grateful to Hazel Leys Academy for welcoming us again so warmly and to Leon Greenwood for giving his time, his story, and his passion to the next generation. We can’t wait to see what seeds of ambition were planted today.
