“Get comfortable being uncomfortable!” England Netballer, Eboni Usoro – Brown Shares Valuable Insights With The Students of Francis Holland School
Team Bath and England Netball Superstar, Eboni Usoro – Brown always ensures that she is the greatest role model to those around her, setting the example, that she too was set growing up. Here at the Mintridge Foundation, we have been determined that the closure of schools during the Covid – 19 Pandemic has not been a barrier to young people hearing and learning from Eboni’s stellar career both on and off the court to date.
With this in mind, we were delighted for Eboni to join the students at Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park online on Wednesday 3rd March to share her valuable insights into the life of the coveted red dress and much more – valuable skills and insights that are so far reaching and transcends into life as a student at FHS.
Eboni spoke passionately about her enjoyment of the journey towards the pinnacle of her career; THAT Commonwealth Games Gold Medal and exactly how it was achieved:
“Get comfortable being uncomfortable!”
“Be solution based, no excuses!”
One poignant moment that Eboni shared is so very relevant to each and everyone one of us at this moment in time and we urge you all to do this too, whether it be online learning, back to back zoom calls or feeling the burden and great impact of the pandemic:
“Each week, I ensure that I do three things for thirty minutes that are just for me”.
What will yours be?
“I’m a Helen Housby at heart” was just one area from the presentation that we feel we can question Eboni on – we know know that you are a formidable defender through and through!
We have to say, that there was a real star of the show at the end of the call as Eboni’s daughter joined in the fun and games – Eboni was truly showcasing what is possible for these aspirational females as she answered some fantastic questions posed by the students:
“Have you ever experienced discrimination in the sports industry?”
Eboni thanked the student for this very topical question and she shared how proud she is to be part of a sport that celebrates such difference. Eboni encouraged the students to watch the fascinating Sky Sports documentary: Black Roses: Netball After The Windrush.
“Do you have any regrets?”
Eboni shared honestly that she didn’t and praised coaches past and present for giving her time to reflect on difficult situations.
It is safe to say that we could have sat online all evening, gathering as many of the golden nuggets that Eboni was sharing that will have a lasting impact on the students for a long time to come.
