A Visit With Purpose: Sporting Icons Visit Ellison Boulters CofE Academy To Mark National School Sports Week 2025
On Monday the 16th of June, on a beautiful sunny day, we had the opportunity to visit Ellison Boulters CofE Academy, in Lincolnshire. This day marked the start of our favourite week of the year, National School Sports Week
National School Sports Week runs from 16th to 22nd June 2025 and promotes the power of PE, sport and play in building brighter futures and happier, healthier young people across the UK. This initiative is led by the Youth Sports Trust and we here at Mintridge are fully behind everything it stands for.
Three amazing ambassadors including Nekoda Davis OLY, Marko Backovic and Siobhan Fitzpatrick PLY all led individual coaching sessions and hosted a joint presentation to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 students focusing on the school’s 6 key values: Friendship, Respect, Happiness, Honesty, Understanding, Responsibility.
Each child that works with Mintridge has a unique journey and Ellison Boulters children were no different. Mintridge Ambassadors help young people live well and develop mental and physical fitness superpowers. They have an incredible ability to ignite a fire within the young people they work with. Mintridge athletes, previously only seen on television, stand in front of students in person, give their time, expertise and advice. This makes the students feel special, they truly listen to the athletes in a different way to many other adults in their lives. Someone important is giving up their time for them, someone relatable. This is the power of role models!
The children rotated between different coaching sessions throughout the day. Nekoda led Judo, children could learn from her extraordinary Olympic journey. Marko taking his basketball experience from the Shark tank in Sheffield to the playground of Ellison Boulters and Siobhan showcasing the power of inclusivity through the power of wheelchair basketball. Each athlete offered a unique session, highlighting different sports students may not be aware of and we hope igniting a new passion and pathways for that young person to pursue.
Reception children were very lucky to have a Q&A session with Siobhan and get to pass around some of her medals, ensuring every child had the experience to meet one of our incredible sporting icons.
“It’s been an amazing day! Your team were brilliant and the children have absolutely loved it.”
We would like to thank everyone involved for making the day such a success and we can’t wait to work with such a wonderful school again!
