High Fives & Heroics: Aileen Whelan Leads Scampton Primary School Into Half Term with Sports Day Celebrations
Scampton Primary School is a benchmark for when Team Mintridge can get into the half term mood here at the Foundation and 2025 has been no different. There always seems to be glorious sunshine too!
The Mintridge Foundation returned to Scampton for the seventh fun filled sports day in a row on Friday 23rd May, and this time it was with the one and only Aileen Whelan, footballing extraordinaire!
With a short presentation taking place in the sunshine under the shade of a tree, Aileen showed a short video and a brief overview about her career. Aileen has an incredibly ability to capture her audience, no matter the age and she was constantly engaging the children throughout.
“Who are your favourite clubs?”
“Can you identify the different clubs shown in my video?”
Resilience was woven throughout Aileen’s story as she was told she wasn’t good enough to play at the highest level of her sport. Through her perseverance, Mintridge’s Ailen went on to represent England at U23 and also for Great Britain too.
“You shouldn’t let other people tell you that you’re not good enough!”
It was soon time to take to the field in school houses to tackle the activities in store for Sports Day. Aileen’s football station had everyone smiling and supporting each other across all year groups! Each session ending with a group photo, a presentation of a medal and certificate as well as an autograph card for everyone.
The traditional water race marked the end of this morning’s fun and we hope that all the children headed into the afternoon’s races full of energy and inspiration from Aileen’s story and coaching!
